Laamu Atoll Resource Use Survey

In 2020, Maldives Resilient Reefs and Blue Marine Foundation conducted extensive surveys of key resource user groups on Laamu Atoll. These surveys included responses by over 240 fisheries resource users across the 11 inhabited islands in Laamu Atoll, 11 local councils, 25 local reef fish export companies, 41 NGOs, two luxury resorts, 1 local guesthouse, and one fish factory. The findings from these surveys form a comprehensive baseline for marine resource use on Laamu Atoll.

We believe that the results from this study is of the utmost importance for future planning, such as for the design of management interventions for the protected areas in Laamu Atoll or fisheries management measures at the local and national level.
